Your current position allows you to discover three different forest types in close proximity to one other. Firstly, you can see a stand of young and dense beech forest characteristic for the site. Both other forest types would not be present without human management. Sycamore and ash are also typical trees in certain types of pristine beech forests. These monotypic stands are the result of human forestry practices. The same holds true for the spruce forest. Contrasting with the different deciduous trees, the spruce is not native in these parts. Mountainous areas above 800 m are the home of this coniferous tree. The reason for it being so common are economic. As a fast-growing tree, it is very important commercially. Under natural conditions all three sites would be dominated by beech.
